Wonderful Wednesday ... 57

Here's a little list of all the wonderful things happening of late, neatly compiled here for you this Wednesday...

1. September. YAAS! THE best month is here. Bloomin love September, naturally it's mainly because I am a September baby. But it's the start of Autumn (the best season) and it really is way more like my 'new year' than January is. It is literally a new year for me, new age, new number and new academic year too. I've been in education forever, either studying or working in the sector so my years start in September. Work has been manic recently and this month things officially quieten down for me a little, so I've been awaiting this month for what feels like so long. Then of course not to mention ... Halloween round the corner, then Bonfire night, then... dare I even say it... C..h..r......!!!

2. Porridge. I am imagining the smile on Sallytangle's face as I type this... My name is Joanne Lusher and I like porridge! Yup! It has taken me the best part of 37 years to realise this, but I do, I SO do. We were camping the other weekend and we always pick up convenience camping food, you know, anything in a pot you can pour boiling water onto. Mark picked up a porridge pot, I moaned and groaned then thought, ugh, might give it a go. It wasn't hideous! I tried overnight oats, you know, back when they were a 'thing' and ew, no, looks like sick, couldn't quite bring myself to put it in my mouth. But warm, cinnamon and apple flavoured porridge, yep I can get on board with this.  It is my theory that you can teach yourself to like anything. I've achieved it with coffee this year and NOBODY likes olives or beer when they first taste them! So I've slowly been introducing porridge, and a couple of weeks in I am actually getting super excited for my breakfast.

3. Running for 30 minutes. You know this may be something to do with the porridge! hehe. I've banged on about running numerous times on here and I'm slowly getting back into it at the moment. I never find I progress very fast. I get to a point and kind of stick there, happy. I was running around 3 miles, but having little walking breaks in between and was ok with this. I'm now part of a running group at work and I think I am frustrating to some with my walking breaks. So this week I said, I wonder if I could just keep going. So I got up on Thursday morning and went for it, and I could. I did 30 minutes, somewhere near 3 miles, hurrah! Moral of the story, just push yourself a little bit more eh Jo!

4. Misty mornings. On my morning 30 minute plods I've been getting up to wonderful dusky, dewy, misty mornings and they are fab! Perfect running weather. I can't wait for those icy cold mornings where you see each breath as you exhale, ahhh, sigh... But I've loved the little nip in the air. I run along and push my hair back absent mindedly and its damp from the mist and dew,.

5. Loud music on my way to work. I walk everywhere and I've usually got my earphones in when I'm walking. Sometimes its an audiobook, sometimes its an educational or topical podcast for days I'm feeling intellectual (probably few and far between) but mostly it's music. Up LOUD, the heavier the better. Sometimes a little Taylor Swift creeps in. I mean, 'Shake it off' on the way home after a loooong day in the office is THE best. But mostly ROCK, METAL, hard, loud... Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Rammstein, Distillers, nothing like a good shouty lyric to get you started in the mornings.

6. Completing a work project. I don't take compliments, like ever. I'm a shy, quiet type and the idea of being centre of attention or making a fuss or putting myself forward freaks me out. You will always find me lurking in the background, behind the scenes you know... But I have completed work on a rather exciting project at my job recently. An exhibition looking at the history of our rather fantastic university campuses, it's great, I'm proud of it. It was a LOT of hard work. The exhibition was 'unveiled' yesterday and ALL the top uni people were there and I received the loveliest compliments.  And as much as it made me blush and I didn't know what to say in reply, I will admit it was well received and gave me quite the little confidence boost.

  2. Congrats on running three miles! I'm just getting back into running now and it's really nice to have that time to myself again. In fact, I'm off for a run in about half an hour. I'm not back to my 3 miles in one go just yet, but I'm hoping to get there in the next month or and then maybe more.

  3. September really is the best month, I agree with you there! This september marks the first of not going back to some form of education though and it's strannnggeee. I feel like I need to be buying *all* the stationary!

Oooh I haven't listened to Slipknot in such a long time! My partner is not into rock AT ALL and once Chop Suey came on in the car - I think he had a heart-attack! xx

  4. I used to agree with you on the beer and olives thing until I encountered my 3 year old niece asking for olives from her mum AND sticking her finger into jars of English mustard and horseradish sauce before gleefully licking them clean! Weird child! Happy September to you - I'm thrilled it's here too.
